Why I Owe My Parents Everything

Updated: Aug 1

When I look back at my childhood, it hits me just how much I owe my parents. Their hard work, love, and sacrifices made me who I am today.

My dad worked as a taxi driver at night, so I hardly saw him. He was a shadow drifting in when I on bed or when he drove me to evening classes. Our best times together were watching late-night Champions League games at 3am or hunting for the best hawker food on his rare days off. Even though we didn’t have a lot of time together, those moments were golden.

My mom was a superhero stay-at-home mom. She took care of everything—making sure my brother and I were fed, getting us ready for school, and doing part-time accounting work to bring in extra money. She taught me the importance of saving money, being responsible, and the true meaning of family. Thanks to her careful budgeting, she even managed to pay for my university education.

Life was simple but fulfilling.

My mom’s thriftiness and my dad’s hard work meant we never went without. Their love and sacrifices created a stable, loving home for us. Even though my dad was often working, the time we did spend together was special. And my mom's constant presence was a source of strength and security.

Without their support and sacrifices, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They taught me the value of hard work, dedication, and family. Every little thing they did, from my dad’s long nights driving to my mom’s careful saving, was for us.

So, here’s to my parents—the real MVPs. Thanks for everything, Mum and Dad. Your love and hard work made all the difference.

And here I am, reflecting on my life's, while looking at my 2 beautiful kids - Joshua, Jayme.
